In the words of Mary Prankster The world is full of bastards and I've dated every one. Well okay, I haven't dated them exactly. Can't call it dating. I'd thought I'd been on several dates until I was told, "getting drunk and having sex isn't a date." Well damn. Picky, picky. Now many moons ago I went on Holly and Sean's first date. Sean brought a friend. This doesn't count. I was tagging along. The other tag-alonger wasn't there for me, he was there for Sean. I wasn't there for him, I was there for Holly. So I'm 25 and have never, technically, been on a real date. That's okay though because at the moment I happen to be in a not real relationship. Just a breath away from a pseudo marriage. posted by Beth 2:09 AM . . . Wednesday, March 26, 2003 A good word to know So you want another word. Okay. You shall have one. Instead of opening my beloved dictionary, closing my eyes and running my finger down the page until I feel like stopping, I have chosen to to share one of my favorite words. I give you Excarnation. Basically, instead of interring a corpse, it is left above ground for various wild animals to nibble on. The body becomes part of the food chain, and the circle of life is completed. Of course, there is a more sinister side. Excarnation has also been used as a further punishment for the deceased and a scare tactic for the living. Say you betrayed your government or otherwise managed to disgrace yourself. After your execution, you would be denied a proper burial, dragged out of town and left to rot. Yummy! Watching vulchers and wolves tear at your flesh would make others think twice about following in your footsteps. Perhaps. Unless you were Antigone. Then it would just piss you off. Antigone is one of my favorite plays in case you haven't guessed. I suggest you all read it. I don't suggest the viewing of the tortorous, soundless, twisted ballet-like movie based on the play that I was forced to watch in college. If given a choice, I would choose excarnation over watching that bit of mind-numbing garbage again. posted by Beth 1:41 AM . . . Monday, March 24, 2003 Let's be realistic I'm not a Bush fan. I'm neither Pro-war nor Anti-war. It's kind of difficult to take sides when you're not really sure what the war is all about. Don't send me comments or emails trying to open my eyes one way or the other. I don't want to know. I watch the news non-stop. Pretty pointless considering the stations just keep saying the same things over and over again. I have a cousin fighting in Iraqi. I may have several actually, but I only know of one thus far. We're not all that close, but I don't want him dead. I don't want anyone dead, but I don't want to be sprayed with Mustard Gas either. I watch the news and every time a soldier is killed, the family holds a picture up in front of the camera and says things like, "The President killed my child." Bush got the United States involved in a war, that much is true, but your children joined the Army, AirForce, Navy, or Marines. They made a concious choice to do so. They knew the risks involved. They may have joined during "peace-time" (have we trully ever had a peace-time?) or to earn money for college. Doesn't matter. They still joined. These men and women weren't drafted and sent off to die. They volunteered for it. Even if they don't agree with a war in Iraqi, they made a choice to defend our country. Is our country in need of defence from Iraqi? Threats were made to the US by Saddam. I don't know about you, but I don't want to wake up one morning and find that my town has turned into another Hiroshima. That being said, I think some more diplomatic measures could have been taken before we started marching to Baghdad. Either way, you won't see me out protesting. All these people standing around with bloody sheets wrapped around their heads aren't changing anything, they're just causing traffic flow problems. Do you really think our government is worried about popular opinion? If they were, things would never had progressed this far. You don't have to support the war, but don't take it out on the millions of servicemen'women involved. I've seen footage of Veitnam Vets being spit on and it's sickening. Support your troops. Remember, these people volunteered for this duty so that you won't one day be forced to do it. posted by Beth 6:02 PM . . .
