Are you ready?

Grab your handbaskets kids, we're going to hell! Another four years of paranoia and terrorists hiding under the bed. Can't wait.

I'm sure Bush already has his copy of the Constitution and his red pen ready. I don't understand how he expects to add the banning of gay marriage to the constitution. Does he plan on eliminating that pesky freedom of religion thing? It seems that the whole reason for banning gay marriage is because "god says it's wrong." That's fine and dandy if you believe in a christian god, but the constitution guarantees our right to not believe in a christian god. We have that whole separation of church and state thing, ya know. You can't add an admendment that contradicts another, can you? I understand that the vote goes with the "moral" majority. I suppose the majority of Americans are christian and believe in god. Fine. Not everyone is going to be happy all of the time, but if we have this separation of church and state (which surely was created when christians were the majority) does it matter that the majority is bible thumpers? Isn't this why we have a separation in the first place, so that everyone's rights and thoughts are represented? Blah. I'm sure this doesn't make sense. I'm not expressing myself very well today. I think it's time to go to bed.

Voting

I did my part today and voted for the lesser of two, maybe three, evils. I suppose that makes me a good American. So many people want to bitch about our country, but they don't do anything to bring about change. I voted. I tried. I hear people talking about leving the country and going somewhere better. Where are you going to go? Every country has its problems, you just don't see it until you actually live there and see how things work for a few years. Through my different jobs over the years, I've met several people from different countries who decided to move over here. People who said that their home country did indeed have free health care and insurance and so forth...but it sucked. They had to stand in line while people in a higher tax bracket got the better benefits, and more serious medical conditions weren't covered. I don't know about all of that, but I know the only time I stood in line for medical attention was at the Free Clinic with Trevor before he got his job at CitiCorp. He could have gone to the hospital, but he didn't want to make payments on that huge bill for months.

I used to work with two guys from Mexico. They spent four days in the desert and almost died trying to get into this country. In a single week, they made more than they did in almost two months working in Mexico. I can't even imagine that. I think the problem is that too many of us are spoiled. We never had to live through the hard times that our grandparents and great grandparents lived through. We take too much for granted nowadays. The United States has a lot of problems, but I'm not ready to pack up and leave it behind. I don't think you can find anywhere better, just a slightly different crop of problems and different scenery
